Booking & payment

How do I get current rates and availability?

Open our booking engine: it shows live availability and prices for your exact dates. This website doesn't show prices because they change with dates and demand. La Palmera is also listed on Hostelworld and Booking.com.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

It depends on where you booked and the rate. As published on 22 October 2026: the direct booking engine charges 100% of the booking if you cancel 2 days or less before arrival; the Hostelworld listing asks for cancellation 2 days before arrival and charges the first night for late cancellations or no-shows; the Booking.com rate we checked was free to cancel until 2 days before, then the first night, and the full stay for no-shows. Always check the conditions in your confirmation. To change a direct booking, write to lapalmerahostel@gmail.com or WhatsApp.

How do I pay? Do you take cards?

Payment and prepayment rules depend on the booking channel and rate, and the public listings don't agree on accepted methods. Please check the conditions shown when you book, or ask us on WhatsApp before you arrive so there are no surprises.

Are taxes included?

The Hostelworld listing states that taxes are included for foreigners with a tourist permit and that VAT is not included for Colombian residents. If you're unsure which applies to you, ask us.

Is breakfast included?

Yes. Breakfast is included on a do-it-yourself basis: you prepare it in the guest kitchen. Guests describe eggs, coffee and milk.

Rooms

Do you have a female-only dorm?

Yes — the 4-bed female dorm: four beds, women only, with its own bathroom.

Can couples stay?

Absolutely. Two private room types sleep two on a queen bed: the double room with private patio (with its own bathroom) and the deluxe double with balcony (bathroom shared, outside the room).

Which rooms have a private bathroom?

Three categories have a bathroom inside the room: the 6-bed mixed dorm with private bathroom, the 4-bed female dorm and the double room with private patio. The 8-bed dorm, the 6-bed dorm and the deluxe double with balcony use shared bathrooms just outside. Compare them all on the rooms page.

Are the rooms air-conditioned?

Air-conditioning isn't listed for any room. Every dorm bed has its own personal fan and the private rooms have fans too. If A/C is a must for you, message us before booking.

Are bed linen and towels included?

Bed linen is included. For towels, ask at reception — a fee may apply.

Is there an age limit?

La Palmera is adults-only (18+); children can't be accommodated. A valid passport or Colombian cédula is required at check-in.

Dance & activities

I've never danced. Can I join the salsa classes?

Please do. Group classes start from the basic step and most guests arrive with zero experience. You don't need a partner — partners rotate.

Are the dance classes included?

Yes. Group salsa and bachata classes run from Monday to Sunday and are free for guests. Today's time is on the painted schedule wall, or ask reception.

Can non-guests join the classes?

We can't confirm a policy for visitors here. Send us a message on WhatsApp and the team will tell you what's possible.

Can I book private dance lessons?

Yes — private salsa and bachata lessons with professional dancers can be arranged on request. Prices and timing depend on the teacher; ask on WhatsApp.

Do you offer yoga or massages?

That's not something we can confirm right now. Ask the team — they'll tell you what's available in the house or nearby.

Getting here

How do I get here from the airport?

Cali's Alfonso Bonilla Aragón airport (CLO) is outside the city. The hostel's own guidance: take a taxi from in front of the arrivals hall (about 40 minutes), or a bus from the arrivals hall to the main bus terminal (about 30 minutes) and then a taxi to the hostel (about 15 minutes). Fares change — ask us for current ones. Full directions on the Find us page.

Can you arrange a taxi or airport shuttle?

Yes, the hostel offers organised (paid) airport transfers. Send your flight details on WhatsApp and we'll confirm the price and pickup.

Can I arrive after 23:00?

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 23:00 and reception is open 24 hours. If you'll arrive outside that window, let us know in advance on WhatsApp so someone is ready for you.

Can I leave my luggage after check-out?

Check-out is by 12:00. Luggage storage is listed among the hostel's services — ask reception on the day.

Life in the house

Can I work remotely from the hostel?

Yes. There's a coworking area with good light, plenty of sockets and reliable Wi-Fi, next to the yellow breeze-block wall.

Is there a kitchen I can use?

Yes — a huge, fully equipped guest kitchen. Guests often mention that lots of people can cook at the same time.

Can I bring my pet?

Pets are allowed on request only, and charges may apply. Ask us before you book.

Is there a curfew? Can I smoke?

No curfew. The hostel is non-smoking and has zero tolerance for drugs inside. Everything else is in the house rules.

Is there laundry?

Yes, there's a laundry service. Ask reception for current prices and turnaround.

Practical Cali

What should I pack for Cali?

Light clothes for warm days, something a little smarter for salsa bars, shoes you can dance and turn in, sunscreen, a light rain layer and insect repellent (one recent guest mentioned mosquitoes). A small padlock is handy for lockers.

Is the area safe?

Miraflores is a traditional, green residential neighbourhood and guests rate the hostel's security highly. Cali is still a big city: keep your phone out of sight on the street, take a taxi or app ride at night, and ask reception before exploring somewhere new. Nobody can guarantee safety, but local advice helps a lot.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, free Wi-Fi throughout the house.

Do you have a hostel in Bogotá?

Yes — the family has a sister house in Bogotá: Vecinos by La Palmera, in Chapinero. It's a separate hostel with its own bookings.
